Press conference on the sidelines of the conference on new global developments and their impact on national unity – Al-Ahram Foundation House

1. A Call to Gratitude and Unity
His Holiness Pope Shenouda III began his speech by greeting all attendees and thanking the religious and cultural leaders present, affirming that the One God is worshipped by all. He praised Egypt’s wise and secure stance amid global unrest, congratulating the people on national achievements such as the Mubarak Peace Bridge and the Library of Alexandria.
2. Egypt as a Model of National Unity
The Pope emphasized that Egyptians are one people in all national struggles—from resisting foreign occupation to the October War—and that both Muslims and Christians stand together for the rights of Palestine. He highlighted his deep friendship with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar as a symbol of genuine unity and brotherhood.
3. Total Rejection of Terrorism
His Holiness declared that all religions reject violence and bloodshed. Terrorism, he said, differs from war because it kills innocents treacherously. He called for distinguishing between true faith and those who mislead others in its name, describing terrorists as victims of distorted thinking that must be confronted intellectually and spiritually.
4. Education and Awareness as the True Remedy
Pope Shenouda urged for broad educational efforts — in schools, universities, churches, and mosques — to combat extremist ideologies. He encouraged academic research to study and correct such misguided beliefs. He also emphasized the key role of media in spreading awareness and truth.
5. Cooperation and Calm Wisdom
He called for holding religious and humanitarian conferences to promote peace and interfaith dialogue, carried out with wisdom and without fear or exaggeration. The Pope concluded by affirming that Egyptian society is founded on mutual love and that ignorance and fanaticism must be healed with patience and understanding.
📜 Core Spiritual Message:
National unity is not a slogan but a shared life of love; terrorism has no religion; true faith is peace and compassion. Awareness and dialogue are the cure for ignorance and extremism.
