1. Religion, Politics, and Wars

His Holiness Pope Shenouda explained that wars and global conflicts have nothing to do with divine teachings, as political and military leaders do not represent either Christ or Moses — they act from self-interest and greed. He described what is happening in Palestine as a humanitarian tragedy involving destruction and bloodshed, which true Judaism does not approve of.

2. On U.S. and Israeli Policies

The Pope stated that U.S. foreign policy often uses global issues like 9/11 to justify wars, affirming that such acts have nothing to do with the Gospel or the Torah, but are driven by power and worldly motives.

3. On the So-Called “Christian Zionism”

He denied the existence of “Christian Zionism,” clarifying that some Christians are influenced by Zionist thought, not that it forms a Christian belief. He attributed this to the strong influence of Zionist media and politics in the West, calling for a strong Arab media presence abroad to convey truth objectively.

4. The Millennial Kingdom Belief

The Pope explained that Orthodox Christianity does not believe that Christ will reign on earth for a thousand years, but that He will come at the end of times for judgment. He said that some Western groups misunderstood this and wrongly linked it to Jewish gathering in Jerusalem.

5. Call for Peace and Unity

His Holiness emphasized Christ’s words, “My peace I give to you,” noting that violence cannot achieve divine purposes. He urged Arab nations to unite and abandon divisions, as unity gives strength and influence in the world.

6. On the War Against Iraq

He warned against the devastating consequences of the coming war on Iraq, calling for peaceful solutions and a unified Arab stance in defense of peace and regional stability.

7. Appreciation for Egyptian Efforts

The Pope praised President Hosni Mubarak’s tireless efforts to promote peace and Arab unity, describing his work as noble and selfless for the good of the Middle East and the world.

8. The Church’s Witness to Truth

He concluded that the Church does not engage in politics but always testifies to truth and peace, praying for all suffering peoples and urging nations to stand together with one voice before global challenges.
