Poetry and Literary Selections – Poem about Bees
In this beautiful reflection, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III quotes the poet Ahmed Shawqi, who spoke about the kingdom of bees, saying:
“A kingdom ruled by a queen, bearing the burden of control over workers and laborers; I marvel at workers who are ruled by a Kaisar!”
His Holiness explains that Shawqi, speaking at a symposium about workers, used bees as an example of perfect order, discipline, and cooperation within creation.
He then moves to the spiritual reflection, stating that bees prove the existence of God. Such precision and harmony in their work cannot be the result of chance. Every bee works wisely and purposefully, and the honey they produce stands as a clear testimony to God’s divine wisdom.
