Man

-
Composition: Man consists of three elements: body (material), soul (principle of physical life), and spirit (the link with God and eternal life).
-
The Body: The body itself is not sinful. It can glorify God (through prayer, service, endurance) and cooperate with the spirit. Sin begins when bodily desires dominate the spirit.
-
The Soul: Gives life to the body (connected with blood). When the soul departs, the body dies physically. It is distinct from the spirit.
-
The Spirit: Created in God’s image, yearning for the Infinite (God, perfection, eternity). Sin distorts this image; repentance and baptism renew the spirit.
-
Types of Death: Physical (separation of spirit and body), spiritual (separation from God), and moral (loss of divine likeness).
-
Shared Responsibility: Both body and spirit share in sin, and both will share in judgment or reward after resurrection.
-
Spiritual Goal: The body should submit to the human spirit, and the spirit to the Spirit of God — leading to true spiritual life.
