Lukewarmness and Service
Question:
If my spiritual life becomes lukewarm, or if I fall into sin, should I leave the service, since service does not agree with sin nor with lukewarmness?
Answer:
Lukewarmness and sin do not suit you whether you serve or do not serve.
If your life becomes lukewarm, do not leave the service; rather, leave the lukewarmness. And if you fall into sin, do not leave the service; rather, leave the sin.
If you leave the service, your condition will become worse… this is on the one hand. And on the other hand, what fault is it of the service and of those being served? Therefore, always place before you that profound phrase:
“For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth”
(John 17).
