Individual work
The lecture affirms the importance of individual ministry alongside communal ministry. Even amid crowds, our Lord Jesus performed private encounters (with Zacchaeus, Nicodemus, the blind man, Mary Magdalene, the Emmaus disciples, Saul) because they save souls and reveal their real problems.
Aims of individual ministry
-
To uncover a person’s spiritual and social condition: family, school, club, neighbors, and friends.
-
To assess the effect of systematic teaching and know whether the lesson yields benefit or not.
-
To discover special needs (excess energy, family conditions, weakness, poverty) and address them through individual sessions.
Places and methods of private meeting
-
The session can be in Sunday school, at home, at the club, visiting a sick person, at a funeral, or any natural place.
-
It must be natural, humble, full of love and service, not artificial or disturbing.
Fruits of individual ministry for the service
-
It yields experience in human souls and an understanding of the practical depth of their problems, leading to more useful practical and spiritual solutions.
-
It allows using children’s energies or turning a bad role model into a good one, and gives those who need a private session special attention.
Spirituality and ethics in the private encounter
-
The individual work ought to be done in a spirit of love, humility, and respect for the other’s personality.
-
The aim is the salvation and edification of the soul, not showmanship or pretense.
