Ministry is not in the abundance of its fields, but in the depth of its work and its spirituality.
Is it not a tragedy in ministry when good elements become distressed, despair, withdraw, and leave the atmosphere to other troubled elements?!
The Limits of Priestly Work
In many matters, our priestly work is to advise, not to compel. For our duty is awareness, not control…
God Himself gave us commandments, but did not force us to fulfill them. Instead He said: “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil… Therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” (Deut. 30:15, 19)
Thus, the confessor has the right to advise the person confessing, without saying, “No absolution, no permission for you to do such and such…”
Otherwise the confessing person feels that confession has become a restriction, not guidance…
Temporary Cooperation…
Some people who differ in spirituality and in life approach—and may even be enemies—cooperate together…
But it is cooperation not based on high ideals nor on love… all that it is, is temporary cooperation… meaning for a certain phase, to accomplish a common goal.
And when this phase ends and the goal is achieved, these cooperators may turn into enemies again as they were… and the partnership dissolves.
When Churchill, the Prime Minister of Britain, allied with Communist Russia against Hitler, people were amazed.
Churchill told them that he was ready to ally even with the devil to win the war…
And it was indeed a temporary cooperation between them.
Once they got rid of Hitler and won the war, they separated again because the ideologies were contradictory…
Have you ever allied with the devil to gain a certain objective?!
And you say to yourself that it is only temporary cooperation, and you will end this partnership once you obtain your goal!!
Perhaps you try to end this cooperation, but the devil tempts you to keep it for another phase for the sake of another objective…
And the phases continue until it becomes a permanent partnership…!
