Fruits of the Spirit (Meekness)

The lecture focuses on the virtue of meekness as one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit, and as a fundamental sign of a sound spiritual life, closely connected to love, peace, and humility.
The Spiritual Meaning of Meekness
Meekness is not weakness or negligence, but a quiet inner strength that enables a person to endure others, control the self, and act wisely without anger or harshness. Our Lord Jesus Christ clearly declared this virtue when He said: “Learn from Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart.”
Meekness in the Holy Bible
Meekness is clearly shown in the teachings of the New Testament, where the apostles called for restoring the fallen with a spirit of meekness and linked true wisdom with meek behavior. The Psalms also praise the meek and promise that they will inherit the earth, meaning the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Characteristics of the Meek Person
The meek person is:
- Calm in nature, words, and actions
- Far from violence, harshness, and impulsiveness
- Does not judge others nor seek revenge
- Cheerful, simple, and loved by all
- Gentle, patient, and inclined to peace
Meekness in the Life of Christ and the Saints
Meekness appeared clearly in Christ’s dealings with the Samaritan woman, Nicodemus, and Peter the Apostle, combining truth with gentleness without hurting feelings. It also appeared in the lives of prophets and saints such as Moses the Prophet, David the Prophet, and Saint Moses the Black, whose violent nature was transformed into meekness through spiritual discipline.
Practical Message
Meekness may be a natural disposition or a virtue acquired through spiritual struggle. It is required in every position—leadership, service, or defending the truth—without losing inner peace or love toward others.
