The lecture focuses on the verse from Romans 14:8: “For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s,” emphasizing that the single, most important goal of a person’s life must be the Lord.

1. The Sole Goal: The Lord

The speaker warns against the existence of many other goals in people’s lives besides the Lord, such as:

  • Self and Worldly Pleasure: Like someone who says, “I live to enjoy life,” contradicting the Apostle Paul’s statement: “For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself.”
  • Children and Wealth: Like someone whose goal is their children, accumulating wealth for them without regard for the Lord’s right (tithes). The speaker stresses that true love for children is primarily about connecting them with the Lord.

2. The Meaning of “If We Live, We Live to the Lord”

  • The Goal in Everything: It means the Lord should be the purpose behind every action.
    • In Eating: We eat to gain strength for our duties and faithfulness before God.
    • In Fasting: We fast to gain spiritual strength to be faithful before Him.
  • Reasons for Living for the Lord:
    1. Because He is the Creator and Giver of Life.
    2. Because He purchased humanity with a price, His precious blood.
    3. Because He is the Heavenly Father.
    4. Because it is the true and preserved life. Living for the Lord contains the joy of life.
  • Training to Live for the Lord: One can start by dedicating the Lord’s Day (Sunday) to Him. Whoever lives it for the Lord finds a strong provision for the rest of the week. Living for the Lord here is a rehearsal for eternal life, because eternal life is not suited for the carnal, soulish person.
  • How to Live for the Lord?
    1. With the Heart and Love: We should become accustomed to loving the Lord and living with Him in our heart while He lives in ours, regardless of social status (married, rich, poor).
    2. By Executing His Will and Building His Kingdom: We live to carry out God’s will in our lives and the lives of others.
    3. By Fellowship with Him and the Holy Spirit: To work with Him as co-workers with God, and to realize that we are the Holy Temple of God.

3. The Meaning of “If We Die, We Die to the Lord”

  • It means that the Lord receives our spirit immediately upon death, and the angels take it to place it in Abraham’s bosom, so we live in Paradise with Him.
  • We must secure this matter so that the hour of death does not become an hour of terror.
  • He indicates that death will be with rejoicing for those who have fought the good fight, finished the race, and lived with the Lord all their lives.
