Church Regulations – Part 2

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III continues his teaching on the importance of order inside the Church, emphasizing that lack of organization leads to loss of spirituality, spread of disorder, and stumbling many both inside and outside the Church. Order is not merely administrative; it is a spiritual necessity that preserves holiness and organizes all ministry.
1. Organization in church clubs
-
A club without spiritual supervision or with weak oversight becomes a source of noise, quarrels, improper words, and strangers entering without control.
-
There must be:
-
Fixed opening and closing hours.
-
Clear membership cards.
-
Active spiritual supervision, not absent or passive.
-
Mixing sports with prayer and spiritual lessons.
-
-
Whoever refuses the spirituality of the club should join another club rather than damage the church’s atmosphere.
2. Organization in church celebrations and events
-
A clear regulation is needed concerning:
-
The program – speeches – photography – seating – recording equipment.
-
-
Respecting assigned seats and preventing disorder or occupying reserved places.
-
Speeches must be objective, time-limited, and meaningful.
-
Photographers must be organized to avoid crowding near the altar or front rows.
-
A detailed evaluation should follow each event to identify strengths and weaknesses.
3. The problem of lack of follow-up
-
Many church issues arise because of lack of follow-up and absence of accountability.
-
Many decisions were issued (reviewing the Synaxarium – reviewing the Psalmodies – church membership system) but were not implemented because follow-up was missing.
-
A clear system is needed to commit responsible persons and hold the negligent accountable.
4. Organization of church media
-
All films, stories, and recordings must be reviewed before release.
-
Specialized committees should handle editing, dubbing, correction, and translation.
-
Gathering artistic talents and directing them properly is essential.
5. Educational and pastoral meetings
-
Regular meetings between priests and religion teachers, and between servants and youth, to address needs and clarify teachings.
6. Organization of chanting and choirs
-
Purifying hymns from errors, selecting the best versions, and distributing them to choir teams.
-
Collecting musical and composing talents and placing them in a structured system.
7. Regulations for images inside the Church
-
Non-anointed pictures or pictures of patriarchs may not be placed inside the church.
-
Only icons anointed with Myron and representing recognized saints may be placed inside.
-
Administrative pictures, like the patriarch’s photo, belong in offices and halls, not inside the church.
General spiritual message
Order is protection for spirituality, not its enemy. The Church, as one body, needs clarity, oversight, discipline, and follow-up, so that blessing does not turn into chaos and ministry does not become obstruction. Order reflects Christ’s image: holiness, peace, and respect for every soul.
