Reports on Church Projects
The work of the Church is not only the spiritual work of guiding people to a life of faith and repentance, and to the direct relationship with God through prayer, contemplation, and the other branches of worship.
Rather, the pastoral work of the Church includes many diverse matters which we would like people to know about.
From here, General Bishoprics were established in the Church, each of which undertakes one branch of these many activities. The first General Bishopric whose bishop was ordained was the Bishopric of Education, and it includes church education, the Theological Seminary, and all the other religious institutes.
Then came the Bishopric of General and Social Services, and it acquired very many activities, which the people need to become acquainted with in their entirety.
Then came the Bishopric of Youth, which serves the youth in Egypt and the countries of the diaspora. We have published much about its conferences. But the Bishopric of Youth has other activities which need to be presented to the people with focus and detail.
Therefore, the Patriarchate will collect multiple reports from all the General Bishoprics, so that the people may become acquainted with all their activities.
We will continue publishing all of this in El-Keraza Magazine, God willing.
We say this because many people, on the occasion of the elections of the Communal Council, were asking: What is the work of the Communal Council? There is no doubt that the Communal Council has many achievements. But the problem lies in the lack of publication and introduction.
Likewise, there are activities of the Holy Synod.
They are contained in the work carried out by the Synod’s committees in all their branches. Perhaps among the most prominent of them is what is carried out by the Pastoral Care Committee. We have published some of its work. But the achievements are much more than what is published.
Likewise, there is general social work.
And what the Church does in serving shelter homes, such as homes for expatriate men and women, homes for the elderly, serving prisoners and their families, serving people with disabilities, including the deaf and mute, and all types of disabilities. All of this needs to be introduced: what the Church does and what can be added to it.
For all of this, a services building has been established in every diocese, and in many churches.
What are the details of the work in each building? This is what we would like to introduce to the people.
Every church has a library. Sometimes there are libraries in the services buildings. There are also computer centers and modern technology.
Among the activities of the churches are remedial classes to support students who are unable to bear the heavy financial burdens imposed by private lessons.
Among the activities of the Church also is the medical work that, in some dioceses, has reached the building of a complete hospital with all its specialties.
Among the activities of some churches are workshops, where women carry out sewing and weaving work, whether for individuals’ clothing or clerical garments for all the ranks of the clergy.
We would lack the time if we were to speak about the many activities carried out by the monasteries.
Whether monasteries of monks or nuns… and this includes many artistic and productive works of various kinds and methods.
Among the other activities carried out by the Church is the work of consecrated women. In many dioceses there are consecrated women who have vital and beneficial services, which it is good to become acquainted with…
Among the activities of the Church also are children’s magazines and other magazines for adults, as well as huge numbers of publications, some of which we hold an annual exhibition for…
So how can people become acquainted with all of this?
We ask the dioceses and churches to send us information about all their activities.
We will publish these successively in the magazine under the title “These Are Working.” It would be good if what is published were accompanied by photographs.
