The Problem of Private Lessons

The Problem of Private Lessons
Question
What is your opinion regarding private lessons for school students… which have become a heavy burden on people?!
Answer
There is no doubt that some students need academic support and private lessons. But what is painful is that private lessons have developed and spread until they have become a problem… Some say that one of the causes of the shortage of liquidity economically is the issue of private lessons among the middle class. For the father spends the greater part of his finances on private lessons for his children, and has nothing left with which to buy anything from the market. And when purchasing decreases, liquidity in the economic market decreases.
But there is no objection to having regulations for private lessons, including:
1- The first regulation is that they should not be imposed through pressure and coercion, by threatening the student with failing the examination if he does not take a private lesson or join a “group” taught by the same teacher!! Because there may be students whose fathers and mothers teach them. And there are other students who excel and do not need private lessons. All of these should be left free if they do not want private lessons.
2- Private lessons should be offered at reasonable prices.
Because they have become a heavy burden on the family’s finances in a way that teachers have excessively increased. And the father who has many children in the various stages of education becomes completely unable to pay the expenses required for private lessons.
3- One of the important regulations is that the teacher who gives the private lesson should not be the one who sets the examination and grades the answer sheets. If this condition is fulfilled, the element of fear of possibly failing in the case of not taking a private lesson disappears, and the students become free to choose.
**4- Among the reasons that may lead students to need private lessons is the overcrowding of students in a single classroom, to a degree that does not help them comprehend the lessons, nor does it help the teacher give attention to every student. Thus, the majority come out in need of a private lesson.
Therefore, one remedy for the problem of private lessons is: reducing the number of students in the classroom.
The teacher can then give them attention, unless he is the type who does not give everything he has of information and attention at school, so that they will turn to private lessons!! Like a doctor who refers his patients in the hospital to his private clinic.
5- Above all: The fundamental solution to the problem is the teacher’s conscience.
Without this conscience, the problem of private lessons remains without a solution.
