The lecture also explains that true service to God is not based on seeking easy methods or miracles that attract attention, but on faith, endurance, effort, and giving for the sake of the Kingdom.

It also explains that the Lord Christ did not use His divinity for the comfort of His humanity, but accepted hunger, suffering, and pain, and walked the way of the Cross. Therefore, service to the Kingdom requires endurance and effort, and a person should not make comfort or quick success his goal. The lecture also emphasizes the importance of a faith that does not continually depend on miracles and spectacular signs, but on love for God and trust in Him even without seeing a miracle.

The lecture warns against using a single verse from the Holy Bible separately from the rest of Scripture, because a verse can be misunderstood when it is isolated from its context and from the spirit of the Bible. Pope Shenouda III gives the example of Satan’s temptation of the Lord Christ, when Satan used a biblical verse but with a wrong understanding and in an inappropriate context. A person should also not make miracles a condition for his relationship with God, but should live by faith, love, and giving. The lecture calls us to accept effort, tribulation, and the Cross in the path of service, while trusting in God’s wisdom and providence. The believer must also be cautious of distorted interpretations of the Holy Bible and should always seek the complete meaning of the verses.
