In every sermon he delivered in the church, he directed all the teachings in it as though they were arrows aimed

at a certain person present in the church. Some would even look during the sermon at that person, to see the extent of the sermon’s effect on him, because the words applied to him personally to such a great degree…

As for that person who saw himself dissected before the people in this way, whenever he left the church, he would never enter it again.

And people would wonder: Who will be the target of the next sermon?!

And in every sermon, they would focus on its words, trying to deduce whom they were intended for, rather than to benefit spiritually…

And the number of those leaving the church, never to return, increased…

Victims of sermons—or arrows—of this kind.

And the ones who remained asked: Where is the edifying word?
