Question:
Is it possible for a man who was married and became widowed to enter monasticism? Or for a woman who was married and became widowed?
Answer:
Theoretically, there is nothing to prevent this. However, we require two conditions:
Age, and self-control.
As for one who becomes widowed while still young, we do not advise monasticism for him. This is the Apostle’s counsel concerning the young widow in her consecration (1 Tim. 5:11).
As for the ability to exercise self-control, it differs from one person to another.
