Faithfulness in the Spiritual Life

⬇️ تحميل الفيديو

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III speaks about the virtue of faithfulness as the cornerstone of the spiritual life, relying on the command of the Lord Christ: “Be faithful unto death.” He explains that faithfulness is not limited to great matters but begins with the smallest details of daily life.

He explains that the faithful person guards his heart and mind from every sin and resists evil from its very beginning. He does not allow evil thoughts or sinful desires to find a place within him, because the heart should remain dedicated to God alone.

He also confirms that faithfulness includes every aspect of life: prayer, fasting, repentance, the commandments, service, work, and the proper use of the talents and abilities that God has granted, while remaining steadfast in every circumstance, whether in joy or in hardship.

He presents many biblical and spiritual examples, such as Joseph the Righteous and the Penitent Thief, to show that true faithfulness appears through steadfastness and refusing to make excuses regardless of temptations or difficulties.

He places special emphasis on the Lord’s saying: “You were faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things,” explaining that a person is required to be faithful in what he is able to do now, while God completes by His grace what the person cannot accomplish.

He also explains that spiritual growth takes place gradually. Faithfulness in little prayer leads to a deeper prayer life, faithfulness in resisting visible sins leads to victory over hidden sins, and faithfulness in spiritual struggle leads to enjoying God’s consolations and grace.

He compares spiritual growth to the growth of a tree that grows day after day in quietness and steadfastness, emphasizing that continuous faithfulness, even if it appears small, is the path that leads a person to spiritual perfection.

The lecture concludes by calling every believer to begin immediately by being faithful in whatever is presently within his ability, because God blesses every faithful step and leads the person into a deeper life with Him and an eternal inheritance in His Kingdom.
