Main Idea

This lecture discusses the concept of holiness of time and place in spiritual life, focusing on Holy Week as the holiest period of the year, in which a person is called to live in repentance, dedication, and participation in the sufferings of Christ.

First: Meaning of Holiness

Holiness means complete dedication to God, whether in days, places, or people. A holy day is not ordinary, but a time devoted to worship and should be lived differently.

Second: Holiness of Days and Times

Although all days should be holy, some times have special holiness, such as:

  • Fasting days
  • Communion day
  • Spiritual feasts
  • Especially Holy Week

Sin during these times is more serious because it shows disregard for holiness and hardness of heart.

Third: Holiness of Place

Just as there are holy times, there are holy places dedicated to God, such as the church and the altar. These places require reverence because God’s presence is felt more deeply.

Fourth: Holy Week – The Holiest Week

Holy Week is the holiest week of the year because:

  • It has special prayers and rites
  • It focuses entirely on Christ’s sufferings
  • It calls for full devotion to worship
  • It encourages asceticism and avoiding pleasure

It is a chance to enter into participation in Christ’s sufferings, not just remembrance.

Fifth: How to Live Holy Week

To benefit spiritually, a person should:

  • Live the same spirit inside and outside the church
  • Dedicate time to worship
  • Focus readings on Christ’s sufferings
  • Practice deep personal prayer
  • Avoid unnecessary distractions

Sixth: True Repentance

Being moved by Christ’s sufferings is not only by crying, but by:

  • True repentance
  • Stopping sin
  • Not adding new sins

A person is called to real change.

Spiritual Message

The goal of these holy days is to enter into a deeper relationship with God, live repentance, and truly participate in Christ’s sufferings so the days do not pass without spiritual fruit.
