Fasting and the Body

⬇️ تحميل الفيديو

The lecture revolves around the concept of fasting in Christian life, explaining that fasting is not merely abstaining from food, but a spiritual means aiming to elevate from the level of the body to the level of the spirit.

✨ The Spiritual Dimension of Fasting

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III emphasizes that fasting is a period of subduing the body so that the spirit may rise, and that its true goal is spiritual growth, not mere outward practice. Acceptable fasting is accompanied by prayer, contemplation, repentance, and purity of heart.

🔥 Fasting as a Complete Spiritual Life

Fasting is not only about food, but includes controlling the senses, regulating emotions, and avoiding sin. A person is called to fast from anger, judgment, and control over others, directing all of this toward correcting oneself.

⚖️ Subduing the Body for the Spirit

He explains that subduing the body is not an end in itself, but a means to empower the spirit. The body should be subject to the spirit in everything, whether in food, sleep, behavior, or senses.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Spiritual Responsibility of the Family

He stresses the importance of parents caring for the spirit of their children, not only their bodies, because the human being is a complete entity of body and spirit, and responsibility before God includes both.

⚔️ Fasting as Spiritual Struggle

Fasting is described as a period of spiritual warfare against sin and the devil, where a person finds joy in overcoming oneself and experiences inner strength and true growth.

🌿 The Right Balance

He explains that fasting does not harm the body but benefits it, and that excess in bodily pleasures is what causes harm, while disciplined fasting leads to both physical and spiritual health.

🌟 The Ultimate Goal

The goal of fasting is for a person to become spiritual, living according to the spirit and not the body, and to taste life with God from now, in preparation for eternal life.
