The Gospel of Matthew – Part 1

The Main Idea
This lecture explains that the Gospel of Matthew was primarily written for the Jews to prove that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies, and that He is the awaited Messiah, the King of the Jews, and the Son of God, emphasizing that His kingdom is not earthly but a heavenly spiritual kingdom.
Matthew as a Bridge Between the Two Testaments
The Gospel of Matthew is presented as a link between the Old and New Testaments, relying heavily on old prophecies and showing their fulfillment in Christ, helping the Jews understand the Christian faith in light of previous divine promises.
Purpose of Writing the Gospel
The Gospel was written to prove that Jesus is:
- The awaited Messiah
- Son of David and Son of Abraham
- Fulfillment of prophecies
- The true King of the Jews
The writer used genealogies and prophecies to convince the Jews of this truth.
No Flattery Toward the Jews
Although the Gospel is directed to the Jews, it does not flatter them:
- It calls them to true repentance
- Rejects reliance on lineage alone
- Rebukes unrepentant cities
- Shows that Gentiles’ faith can be greater
This shows that salvation depends on true faith, not affiliation.
Conflict Between Jews and Christ
The Gospel shows how conflict began between Christ and Jewish leaders:
- Because of His miracles and divine authority
- Because He corrected wrong understanding of the Sabbath
- Because His teaching exposed their errors
Christ first tried to convince them, then strongly rebuked them due to their rejection of truth.
The Kingdom of Heaven
The Gospel emphasizes that Christ’s mission is not an earthly kingdom, but:
- The Kingdom of Heaven
- A call to repentance
- Spiritual life
This message was central in the preaching of John the Baptist, Christ, and the disciples.
Teachings of Christ
Matthew is rich in teachings such as:
- The Sermon on the Mount
- Parables of the Kingdom
- Teachings on forgiveness and humility
- Teachings about the end times
These teachings show the spiritual path of life with God.
The Method of Compilation
The Gospel gathers teachings of Christ in one place, although they may have been said at different times. This does not contradict truth but confirms repetition for spiritual emphasis.
The Spiritual Message
The main message is:
Christ calls الإنسان to repentance and true faith, and to focus on the Kingdom of Heaven rather than outward appearances or formal belonging, because God looks at the heart.
