Agpeya Part 3

Main Idea
The lecture addresses the correct understanding of fear in spiritual life and responds to criticisms that the Agpeya focuses on servitude and fear instead of sonship and love.
Fear in Christianity
The teaching clarifies that Christianity does not cancel fear but rejects terror. There is a difference between holy fear (reverence and piety) and unhealthy fear. Holy fear leads a person to repentance and righteous life.
Relationship Between Fear and Love
Perfect love casts out fear, but this spiritual state is not easily reached by everyone. Therefore, whoever has not reached perfection still needs fear as a means to protect from falling.
Understanding Biblical Verses
It emphasizes the importance of understanding the Bible in a complete way and not using one verse isolated from the rest. There are verses about fear and others about love, and both must be combined.
Fear of God and Reverence
Fear of God does not mean terror but respect and reverence. It is connected with loving God, where a person loves Him and at the same time reveres Him.
Fear of Self, Not People
The teaching distinguishes between fearing God and fearing people. The believer should not fear humans but should fear his own weakness, falling, and losing eternal life.
Agpeya and Inner Peace
The Agpeya does not plant negative fear but gives reassurance and peace through emphasizing God’s care and protection.
Sonship and Servanthood
It explains that sonship to God exists in both the Old and New Testaments, as well as servanthood. The believer is a son in terms of love and a servant in terms of humility and obedience.
Spiritual Balance
The sound spiritual life is based on balance between love and fear, and between sonship and servanthood, using each concept in its proper place.
