The Ideal Journalist (14)[1]

In this section, we will publish every week a simple note, or a piece of advice… concerning idealism in journalistic work.

The ideal journalist looks at every article and every piece of news from multiple angles. And with deep wisdom he takes into account the consequences of his words from every side.

He is a far-sighted person, broad in horizon, who determines the place of his foot before stepping. And he senses the aspects of goodness in everything he writes.

He thinks about the correctness of his words, and about the impact of his words on everyone, and about people’s understanding and their interpretation of what he writes.

He also takes into account the circumstances and conditions that surround what he writes, and the extent of their suitability.

He does not look from one angle only, but rather is like the Cherubim and the Seraphim full of eyes…

[1] An article by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III in El-Keraza Magazine, sixth year, issue fifty-two, December 26, 1975.
