The Main Idea of the Lecture

The lecture explains that true spiritual life is not based on human effort alone, but on complete reliance on God in everything. Prayer is not merely words or human commitments, but a continuous request for God’s help, grace, and power in our lives. The Church teaches her children that every virtue, every purity, and every salvation is a divine gift that is requested through prayer.

Prayer as Communion with God

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III teaches that a person does not live independently from God, but shares with Him in every spiritual work. The Church, in her prayers, asks God to grant us to please Him, to give us a blameless conduct, and to keep us without sin. Even the ability to pray itself is a gift from Him, therefore we thank Him because He has raised us up for prayer.

Purity as a Divine Gift

The prayers, such as the Agpeya prayers, the Psalms, and the Liturgy, affirm that purity is not the result of personal strength or human commitment, but the work of God in the soul. We say:
“Create in me a pure heart, O God,”
“Purify our souls, our bodies, and our spirits,”
“Keep us this day without sin.”

This teaches us humility and to acknowledge our weakness and ask for God’s power.

Victory Over Spiritual Wars

A person cannot overcome Satan by his own power, but asks God to abolish the power of the adversary and deliver him from the enemy’s snares. Salvation is God’s work, not the result of human promises or struggle alone. Therefore we say: “The Lord is my strength and my praise, and He has become my salvation.”

Divine Enlightenment and Guidance

Even knowledge and walking in the straight path are gifts from God. We ask Him to show us His ways, enlighten our eyes, and guide our steps. Spiritual life is not lived by human intelligence alone, but by God’s guidance and light.

Complete Reliance on God

The essential message is that a person should live in constant reliance on God, asking for His help in everything small and great. Whoever feels his weakness and asks for God’s strength will not be defeated, because the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the humble in spirit.

The Coptic Orthodox Spiritual Dimension

The lecture reveals the Orthodox spirit based on:

• Humility before God.
• Faith that grace is the source of every righteousness.
• Constant prayer as a means of abiding in God.
• Realizing that salvation, purity, and enlightenment are all divine gifts.

Thus, a person does not rely on himself, but experiences the power of God working within him through continual prayer.
