Non-Interference of the Extended Families

In previous issues, we spoke about agreement between the spouses in life, temperament, culture, and faith. Among the factors that help this agreement is:

Non-Interference of the Extended Families

What contributes to the happiness of the newlyweds is the non-interference of their families in their life: the husband’s relatives and the wife’s relatives.

How easy it is for them to resolve their problems peacefully if fathers and mothers do not interfere to complicate the situation and escalate it…

We advise the newlyweds that their problems should remain a secret between them. They should not convey them to their parents or to relatives of a similar degree.

This problem can be solved better by the spiritual father, in a spiritual and impartial manner, and it remains a secret with him.

It is not permissible for the husband to love his family more than his wife…

Likewise with regard to the wife.. The Lord Christ said:

“A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife” (Matt. 19:5).

If the parents are wise, they can guide this new marriage on the right path and provide it with the necessary knowledge for this new life. But if factors of family fanaticism, the bond of blood, misguided love, and false pride prevail over them, then they threaten the new family with dissolution and loss.
