The Ideal Family

The Ideal Family
In this chapter, we wish to examine the subject of the family, from its origin as well as its ideal qualities, along with solving its problems…
The Ideal Family
The ideal family ought to be built upon a strong foundation of harmony. As some say, the husband is but a half searching for his other half.
The spouses are two who live together in one house, and in a shared life throughout their entire lifetime; therefore, the harmony between them should be complete.
They are like two horses pulling one chariot, and they cannot do so unless their movement is in one direction, at one speed, and with equal strength.
They walk together, stand together, and proceed together toward one goal. Neither one presses upon the other. And in former times the proverb said:
“Among the conditions of companionship is agreement.”
This harmony between the two should include temperament and culture, age and ideals, as it also includes the spiritual life in all its branches…
The engagement period helps in testing this harmony, yet it is better to ensure it as much as possible before the engagement.
It is a dangerous adventure that some parents think that this harmony comes through marriage and shared life. It may not come, and the two may increase in disagreement—so what would the result be?!
