Problems That Require Study and Resolution in Forming the Family

Problems That Require Study and Resolution in Forming the Family
At the Family Conference that was held in Alexandria, His Holiness the Pope directed the members of the conference to examine practical points in the life of the family. We now republish them and leave them as subjects for study and consultation.
1- How to form a family and how to choose a life partner.
2- The problem of girls, or their families, feeling anxiety out of fear of missing the age of marriage, which drives many to agree to marriages that do not suit them.
3- The problem of difference in opinion between the family on the one hand and the young man or young woman on the other hand, regarding the acceptance or rejection of a marriage proposal, or regarding the very idea of marriage and replacing it with monasticism, virginity, and consecration.
4- The problem of the elder sister whose marriage is delayed in comparison with her younger sister.
5- The difference in standards of preference in choosing a life partner (status – occupation – reputation – personality – wealth – family – beauty – education).
6- The problem of adhering to specific specifications or a particular type in the other party, imposed by the person or by his or her family.
7- The problems of age disparity between the man and the woman, especially as the young man is currently compelled to delay because of economic and social circumstances, and perhaps also because of military conscription.
8- The problem of emotional attachment between male and female university students, which may not end in marriage, or marriage may become impossible due to financial or family reasons, or because of age.
9- The marriage of the Copts.
10- Exchange marriage.
