An Appointment with Death

It is said that a French prince returned to his palace and found his secretary preparing to travel. He asked him about the reason. The secretary said: I was walking in one of the streets of Paris, and I saw the Angel of Death, who looked at me with a look that terrified me, so I said I would flee far away from him.

The prince asked him: And where are you fleeing?
The secretary answered: To Toulon (and Toulon is about a thousand kilometers away from Paris).

Indeed, the secretary took his belongings and quickly traveled to Toulon.

About an hour later, the prince went out walking in the streets of Paris and saw the Angel of Death. He said to him: I ask you, sir angel, why did you look at my secretary with a look that frightened him?
The angel replied: I never intended to frighten or scare him. I only looked at him in astonished surprise, wondering how I see this person before me in the streets of Paris, while I have an appointment with him tonight in Toulon.
