His Holiness Pope Shenouda III speaks about Mother’s Day as a profound human and

spiritual occasion to express gratitude and appreciation to every mother, whether a biological mother or anyone who fulfilled a motherly role in a person’s life.

Spiritual and Educational Dimension (Coptic Orthodox Perspective)

1. Mother’s Day is an opportunity to remember the mother’s labor even before birth and her physical, emotional, and spiritual care for her children.
2. The mother is the first face a human being sees and the first source of tenderness, protection, and sacrifice, continually giving without return.
3. The meaning of “mother” is not limited to the one who gave birth, but includes everyone who raised and cared: the mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, the Church, and even the homeland.
4. The Church is considered a spiritual mother because she gives birth to the believer in baptism and raises him in the fear of God.
5. The mother has a fundamental role in transmitting faith, as the child absorbs faith and behavior from her actions before her words.
6. He presents biblical and saintly examples such as the mother of Moses the Prophet, Hannah the mother of Samuel, and the mother of Saint Augustine as models of mothers who preserved faith in their children.
7. He connects the commandment “Honor your father and your mother” with divine blessing, explaining that it is the first commandment with a promise.
8. Honoring the mother is shown through respect, obedience, kind words, practical support, and success in life.
