The Number Six in the Holy Bible

1. Six = Perfection of Work
His Holiness relates the number six to the perfection of work because God completed His creation in six days, making the number a sign of the completed divine act.
2. Redemption Completed on the Sixth Day
Christ completed the work of redemption in the sixth hour of the sixth day, marking again the perfection of the salvific act.
3. Servitude and Rest after Six Years
A servant served six years and was freed in the seventh, and the land was worked for six years and rested in the seventh, showing the completion of the working cycle with six.
4. The Divine Blessing in the Sixth Year
Since the land rested in the seventh year, God blessed the yield of the sixth year so it would suffice for two years, again pointing to the completeness signified by the number.
5. Sixty and the Strength of Human Work
Solomon’s throne was surrounded by sixty mighty men, and sixty = 6 × 10, meaning the perfection of work (six) within the commandments (ten).
6. Time Built on Multiples of Six
His Holiness shows that time itself is based on multiples of six:
-
12 months (2 × 6)
-
30 days (5 × 6)
-
24 hours (4 × 6)
-
60 minutes (10 × 6)
-
60 seconds (10 × 6)
All of this reflects the link between temporal existence and six as a symbol of perfected work.
7. Spiritual Fruit and Multiples of Six
The good seed produced 30, 60, and 100:
-
30 and 60 = multiples of six (human work and capability).
-
100 = divine perfection, which no human can reach.
8. Spiritual Message
The number six expresses the utmost humans can offer, while God completes the work to reach true perfection, calling us to humility and reliance on divine grace.
