Biblical Figures – King Saul

⬇️ تحميل الفيديو

The lecture addresses the character of King Saul versus David the anointed, and shows how God’s choice does not justify disobedience or pride. Saul was chosen and anointed but became independent of God’s guidance, so the Spirit of the Lord departed from him and he entered into hatred and pride that led to his ruin. David the anointed had the Spirit of God, humility, and love for others, so his successes became the cause of Saul’s jealousy and the transformation of hostility against him.

Spiritual and educational dimension (from a Coptic Orthodox faith perspective)

  1. Warning against becoming independent from God: kings should originally walk by the Lord’s guidance; Saul walked his own way and lost the Spirit.

  2. The danger of self-love and pride: self-love in Saul was the cause of his destruction, while humility in David preserved him.

  3. The value of the anointing and respecting the anointed: David respected Saul’s anointing though Saul had lost the Spirit, because respecting God’s anointed is an obligation.

  4. The meaning of true repentance: true repentance is an inner change of the heart, while outward weeping and temporary return are not enough (like Saul’s temporary repentance).

  5. Lessons about success: a successful person is exposed to the envy of people, the plots of demons, and the temptations of pride — so spiritual steadfastness is necessary.

  6. Insight in upbringing and example: Jonathan and Michal refused to obey their father outside God’s command, and this instructs that obedience to God is above obedience to people.

Spiritual-educational conclusion

The general message is that God may grant opportunities and gifts even to the sinner, but the real test is the human heart: will it remain humble and obedient to God or will it become self-willed and be destroyed? We must cling to the anointing that gives us the power of the Spirit, and preserve our humility and obedience to God so that we become a means of peace and grace in the world.
