The poem “My Throbbing Heart” was written by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III in 1961. It is one of his most profound spiritual poems, expressing the soul’s divine love and intimate relationship with God. The poem unfolds as an inner dialogue where the heart speaks to its Creator, having forsaken all else to live in union with Him.

🌿 Main Idea:
It begins: “My throbbing heart has become Your dwelling.” The heart is now the Lord’s resting place, free from the noise of the world. The poet declares he has left everything to live with God alone — with no thought, desire, or will except to follow Him.

💫 Spiritual Dimension:
This poem is a prayer of divine love and complete surrender. “I have left all, my Lord, except for You; in this life’s exile, I have no one but You.” It expresses the joy of the soul that finds its peace only in God. Such love is not emotional, but a serene, holy stillness filled with divine presence.

🔥 Faithful Reflection:
The Pope describes how his thoughts rest in God alone: “I forgot my family and friends, even myself, in Your love.” This is the essence of spiritual purity — the heart emptied of all earthly desire, becoming a sacred throne for God alone.

💖 Final Message:
The poem proclaims that the heart truly in love with God holds no one else within. God dwells only in the heart that has surrendered everything to Him. “Your holiest throne is the heart emptied of all desire, holding none but You.” It is the ultimate expression of divine love and total consecration.
