Eutyches — How Did He Begin and How Did He End?!

Eutyches was the head of a monastic order in the city of Constantinople. He was a virtuous monk, known for his asceticism and spiritual life.
When he began to speak on theological matters, which he was not skilled in discussing, he fell into heresy, and his virtuous life did not intercede for him. Saint Dioscorus, the Pope of Alexandria, excommunicated him, and Eutyches lost all the fruits of his ascetic labor.
Then he showed repentance to the saint, who forgave him. Yet, after receiving forgiveness, he clung again to his heresy, so the Church excommunicated him once more, and he remains excommunicated. Thus he began virtuous—and thus he ended.
