Who are the “Seventh-day Adventists”?

The Adventists are a dangerous heresy that shares many serious errors with the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Their most famous heresies include:

  1. They believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Archangel Michael.

  2. They believe that the Lord Jesus was born with original sin.

  3. They call the Holy Spirit “the Vice President of the Lord’s host.”

  4. They believe that Saturday is the Lord’s Day instead of Sunday.

  5. They do not believe in the immortality of the soul.

  6. They believe in three comings of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  7. They believe in an earthly kingdom and that heaven will not be for humans.

  8. They believe that the wicked will be annihilated rather than eternally punished.

  9. They do not believe in priesthood, intercession, or many of the Church’s sacraments.

  10. They have other heresies which we will discuss later, God willing.

Their False Beliefs about Christ:

Their belief that He is the Archangel Michael:
They believe that Christ is the Archangel Michael. In their book The Desire of Ages, p. 10, it says:
“The literal meaning of the name Michael is ‘like God’ or ‘similar to God.’ By comparing several verses, we find that Michael is Christ, for Scripture calls him in Jude 9, ‘the Archangel.’”
After comparing (1 Thess. 4:16) and (John 5:28), they said: “It is clear that Michael is none other than the Lord Jesus Himself. The word ‘angel’ is also one of the names of Christ…”

However, the verse they cited, Jude 9, says:
“But Michael the Archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you.’”
Yet in their book Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 424, they claim that Christ was the one who said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you!” — as if Christ did not dare rebuke Satan Himself!

Nevertheless, they also say in their books that Christ is the only-begotten Son of God and the incarnate God. How can such a contradiction be reconciled?

At best, this means they do not believe in the existence of a separate being named Archangel Michael. In their view, he is simply one of the forms in which the Lord appeared. For instance, they believe that the Lord Jesus is the angel who appeared to Joshua and said to him, “I am the commander of the army of the Lord,” as stated in Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 434.

They also claim that the Holy Spirit was left by Christ as His deputy on earth. Therefore, they call the Holy Spirit “the Vice President of the Lord’s Host.”

The Relationship of the Lord Jesus Christ to Original Sin:
In their commentary on the verse (Heb. 2:17) “Therefore He had to be made like His brethren in all things…,” they say on page 197 of their book The Bible Speaks:
“Either Christ was born of a sinless mother and therefore did not inherit the tendency to sin and thus did not fall into sin — this is a false idea that distances Christ from us and puts Him in a place where we cannot benefit from Him! … Yes, Christ inherited in His incarnation what all the children of Adam inherit!”

While we reject the Catholic belief that the Virgin Mary was conceived without sin — because no one is born free from the original sin except through the atoning blood alone — we cannot agree that Christ Himself inherited original sin, for this would destroy the entire foundation of redemption.
Because Christ, being without sin, was able to die for the sins of others. If He were born with sin, He could not redeem anyone else.

The Adventists claim that Christ avoided committing actual sin by the power of His divinity.
We respond to this heresy with the words of Scripture:
“Therefore, the Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35).

The Holy Spirit came upon the Virgin and purified her womb during the conception of Christ, and Christ was born holy, without sin. He lived not only sinless in His divinity but also in His humanity, which was never s
