Christian Family Conference in the Middle East – Deir Anba Bishoy Al-Amer, Wadi Al-Natrun
This lecture discusses the divine concept of the family as God intended it from the beginning of creation. God did not create man alone but established the first family—Adam and Eve—as the foundation of all humanity.
1. The Meaning of Christian Marriage:
Pope Shenouda III teaches that true Christian marriage is not merely a physical union but a spiritual partnership where God Himself is the third partner. The Christian family is built on God’s presence and mutual love reflecting the relationship between Christ and the Church.
2. The Responsibility of Marriage:
Marriage is not a temporary emotion but a sacred responsibility involving care for one another and raising children in the fear of God. Spiritual and emotional maturity are essential for a strong, holy family.
3. Love as the Foundation:
Love is the cornerstone of every successful family. It creates a peaceful atmosphere where children grow up with joy and stability.
4. Spiritual Education:
The Christian home should be a “small church” where God’s Word is taught daily and planted in the children’s hearts from early childhood, just as Saint Lois and Eunice taught Timothy. The mother is the first teacher, and the father is the priest of the home.
5. Obedience and Respect:
The relationship between parents and children must be based on genuine respect inspired by good example, not fear. Parents should be a source of the Holy Spirit’s work in their children’s lives.
6. A Home Dedicated to God:
A Christian family must be a consecrated home filled with prayer, order, and love, where all members feel the presence of God.
7. Family Blessing:
The lecture concludes that the parents’ blessing is a powerful spiritual force that flows to their children—just as with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—and a blessed family becomes a blessing to generations.
