Biblical Criticism – Does God Remain Confined in the Womb for Nine Months?

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III explains that God is unlimited and cannot be confined in space or time, even during the divine incarnation in the womb of the Virgin Mary.
🔹 Theology and Incarnation:
The divine birth does not mean that God changed or was restricted to a human body, but rather that He revealed His love and union with humanity without abandoning His limitless divine nature.
🔹 God’s Omnipresence:
God was in the Virgin’s womb according to the flesh, and at the same time He filled heaven, earth, and all creation. His presence cannot be measured by place or bound by time, for His nature is infinite.
🔹 Scriptural Reference:
Pope Shenouda cited Christ’s words in John 3:13:
“No one has ascended into heaven except He who descended from heaven, the Son of Man who is in heaven,”
showing that Christ spoke on earth while still being in heaven.
🔹 Faith Essence:
Orthodox faith teaches that the Incarnation did not diminish Christ’s divinity or limit His presence. God remains boundless, filling all creation with love and light.
🔹 Spiritual Message:
The mystery of the Incarnation reveals that God drew near to humanity without leaving His glory. He is always with us, unconfined, working for our salvation.
