Jehovah’s Witnesses – Part 4

They fight against all religions, saying that religion is the creation of Satan to deceive people! They claim that religions are based on the immortality of the soul, and that the immortality of the soul is an idea invented by the devil!
They say that the word religion means “humiliation,” and that religion is a trap and a form of thievery!
Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe in any religion. They see religions as the work of the devil. In their book Riches (p. 104) they say:
“Religion has been—and still is—the chief means which Satan employs to deceive mankind.”
They also say: “Every religious organization that has appeared since the time of Nimrod (Genesis 10:8–10) has been tricked by the devil and used for his own purpose. The Roman Catholic authority is a prime example of this.”

They claim that the Lord Jesus came free of religions, and for that reason, He fought them and they fought Him. In their book The Truth Shall Make You Free they say about Christ:
“This remarkable man who came from Galilee of the nations came to worship God, clean and pure—not only from the abominations of the nations but from all religions as well” (p. 12).
“And for this reason, the class of religious leaders despised Him.”
“This Galilean taught the people openly from the side of a mountain, exposing religion and its highly publicized virtues, its humiliating fasts, and its other displays” (p. 14).

They base this on Christ’s words about hypocrites who fast, pray, and give alms to be seen by others. Commenting on the Sermon on the Mount, they say:
“It is evident that such words were against religion.”
Yet it is clear that the Lord Christ did not speak against religion itself, but against hypocrisy in religion and the pursuit of false glory and human praise.

In their discussions of the Lord with the scribes and Pharisees, they avoid using their actual titles and instead constantly call them “the religious.” They add:
“Here lies the secret of the Galilean’s courage in speaking frankly against religion and hypocritical religious people” (p. 17).

Speaking about truth and the Word of God, they say:
“We cannot go to any of the many conflicting religions hoping to find His Word there, for He Himself said to the practitioners of religion that they were guilty of ‘making the Word of God of none effect by your tradition.’”
There is no doubt that the Lord’s rebuke of the corrupt group of scribes and Pharisees does not mean He was attacking religion or the religious in general.

Jehovah’s Witnesses accuse the devil of “introducing religion to hinder humanity and turn it away from worshiping Jehovah in spirit and in truth” (p. 89).
“It is religion, because it is not the worship of Jehovah—the worship practiced by the Son of God, the Word. Religion is based on the words of a creature, not on the words and commandments of the true God” (p. 89).

Jehovah’s Witnesses distinguish between religion and worship, and they attack religion. In The Truth Shall Make You Free they say:
“Worshiping God in spirit and truth is not religion. True worship in spirit is from God.”
“But religion is from God’s adversary, who thought to make himself like the Most High” (p. 90).
“And the word ‘religion’ in Arabic also means ‘humiliation’” (p. 91).

One of the main reasons Jehovah’s Witnesses fight against religions is their belief in the immortality of the soul, which Jehovah’s Witnesses strongly oppose. In their book Let God Be True (p. 84) they say:
“The first teacher of immortality—the immortality of the soul or its not dying—was the devil, the father of lies. Yes, the immortality of the soul is a doctrine invented by the devil from the beginning… This doctrine is the cornerstone of all religions of the earth.”

They fiercely attacked religion in their book Government (p. 157), and in 1936 they proclaimed a dangerous statement:
“Religion is a snare and a racket.”

Although Jehovah’s Witnesses attack all religions in general, they especially target Christianity. In Riches (p. 178) they say:
“The organizations which men form and call ‘churches’ are not God’s Church, but organizations used by the devil to deceive people…”

From all this, we affirm that the group of Jehovah’s Witnesses fights against religion, views it as opposed to the worship of God, considers it a snare and a form of thievery, and believes it to be the invention of Satan, who created the idea of the immortality of the soul!

In these articles, we aim to expose the group of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Some of their beliefs need no response, while others we will answer after these introductions.

“If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.” (2 John 10)
