I feel that I love you, Lord, in my solitude
In this passage, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III presents a spiritual poem titled “I Love You, O Lord”, expressing the believer’s love for God in all circumstances of life, whether joyful or painful.
The Pope explains that the meaning of these verses is that our love for God should not depend on prosperity alone but should remain constant in every situation — in solitude, in hardship, in repentance, in tears, and even in suffering.
Through his poetic words, he reveals the depth of the soul’s relationship with God, portraying divine love as a spiritual power that fills the heart with peace and hope, giving meaning to every human experience.
The poem reflects true faith that does not waver in the face of trials but grows stronger through them.
The Pope connects love with unity with God, saying that the soul that loves Him hovers around His presence and receives deep grace, for true love is the path to holiness and lasting peace.
The central message of these verses is that the believer is called to love God at all times — in joy and sorrow, in success and failure — for God is the unchanging foundation amid all change.
