In this sermon, H.H. Pope Shenouda III teaches that rest is not laziness and fatigue is not always bad. God Himself rested after completing creation and again after accomplishing salvation. True rest is the fruit of completion, not inactivity.

There are many kinds of rest: of the body, mind, heart, and soul. Bodily rest is necessary, yet one must distinguish between rest and sloth. Fatigue can even serve rest, as in exercise.

The Pope also explains the superior rest of the conscience—when a person suffers bodily but rejoices spiritually for doing right. Saints, servants, and martyrs found rest for their souls through suffering for truth and faith.

Finally, he warns against false comfort—seeking mental or emotional ease at the expense of spiritual peace. Real rest is found only in a pure heart, a clear conscience, and fellowship with God.
