The Christian Family Conference in the Middle East – St. Bishoy Monastery, Wadi El-Natroun

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III speaks about the Christian family as God intended it from the beginning, explaining that it is not merely a human relationship between a man and a woman but a holy union in which God Himself participates. The family is the foundation of society and a small church filled with love and holiness.
🕊️ Spiritual Essence:
-
Family as a Divine Purpose:
God created humanity as a family, not as isolated individuals. Eve was made as a helper for Adam, and from them came the first family, symbolizing all humankind. -
Christian Marriage as a Holy Sacrament:
Marriage is a union between three—man, woman, and God. What God has joined together, no one should separate.
When both spouses carry the Spirit of God, their family cannot fail. -
Marriage as Responsibility:
It is not merely emotional or social but a sacred responsibility to nurture, guide, and serve. It requires spiritual, emotional, and moral maturity. -
Love as the Foundation:
Mutual love between husband and wife is the key to family stability—just as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her.
Where love reigns, children grow in peace and trust. -
Home as a School of Faith:
Parents are the first spiritual teachers of their children.
The Christian home should be a small church with daily prayer, Scripture reading, and continuous faith education. -
Mutual Blessing and Obedience in the Lord:
Obedience within the family must be “in the Lord,” marked by mutual respect and love rooted in divine presence. -
Prayer and Spiritual Unity:
Family prayer sustains unity. Like Abraham praying for his children, parents should lift their children up before God daily. -
Family as a Source of Blessing:
A home filled with the Spirit of God becomes a blessing to the Church and the world, raising faithful and godly generations.
