Leave Me Now

In this deep spiritual reflection, Pope Shenouda III speaks as if in dialogue with his soul before God, admitting that he often interferes in matters not his own — even concerning himself — forgetting that such matters belong to God alone, who knows what is best for each person.
🔹 Complete Surrender to God:
He asks when a person will learn to place his hand fully in God’s hand, allowing Him to lead as He wills, without resistance or complaint. Whatever God allows is always for the best, even if the human mind cannot yet see it.
🔹 Contentment with God’s Will:
The Pope expresses his longing to reach a state of perfect contentment, to stop insisting on changing what God has permitted, and to stop acting as if God were unaware of his good. He calls for trust and peace in accepting everything from God’s loving hands.
🔹 Being Distracted by the Self:
He explains that while one may think being occupied with others distracts from God, being absorbed in oneself is even more dangerous, for it distances the soul from divine presence. When the person focuses on himself, he forgets that God dwells within him.
🔹 The Call to True Solitude:
True solitude, he says, is not sitting with oneself but sitting with God. Thus, he tells his soul: “Leave me now — it is better for us, that I may be alone with God and enjoy His promise to abide in me.”
🔹 Spiritual Essence:
This reflection calls for inner peace, full surrender, and freedom from self-absorption. The true relationship with God is built on simplicity, obedience, and silent union with Him — where the heart finds its real rest and eternal peace.
