Some Attributes of God

His Holiness begins by explaining that God’s attributes are of two types:
-
Essential attributes that belong to God alone.
-
Shared attributes that may appear partially in humans, such as mercy or wisdom, but God’s attributes remain infinite and perfect.
The Essential Attributes of God
1. God the Creator Alone
Only God creates from nothing, by His word, command, and will:
“He spoke, and it came to be.”
Humans are makers, not creators—they shape what already exists.
2. God the Eternal
He has no beginning. Everything else was created.
Concepts like “1+1=2” might seem eternal as ideas, but only God has true eternal existence.
3. God Unlimited
Unlimited in place – present everywhere.
Unlimited in time – sees past, present, and future at once.
Unlimited in power – almighty, so no other gods can exist beside Him.
Unlimited in knowledge – knows everything instantly, without tools or discovery.
4. God Perfect in Absolute Perfection
God’s perfection is absolute.
Humans may reach relative perfection, but God alone is perfect in mercy, wisdom, and power.
5. God the Only One Worthy of Worship
True worship belongs to God alone.
Idolatry of humans, kings, or objects is false worship.
Only God deserves prayer and praise.
