Written Criticism – Is the Bible the Word of God?

⬇️ تحميل الفيديو

In this lecture, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III explains that the Holy Bible is the Word of God, though it contains different forms of divine speech, not all expressed in the same way.
The Pope outlines three forms of God’s word found in Scripture:

  1. Direct speech from God, such as the divine commandments and covenants spoken by God Himself.

  2. Words delivered through prophets, where the Holy Spirit spoke through them.

  3. Historical or narrative writing, recorded by inspired authors describing events, genealogies, and divine actions in history.

He emphasizes that all these kinds are equally inspired, since the Holy Spirit guided the sacred writers to express what God wanted revealed—whether law, prophecy, or history.

The Pope adds that Scripture must contain the history of creation and the stories of the prophets, because without them we could not understand the context of God’s words. For example, to grasp the Psalms of David or the Proverbs of Solomon, we need to know who David and Solomon were. Thus, the Bible unites commandments, teachings, and history in one divine revelation.

✝️ Spiritual Lessons:

  • The Bible is entirely inspired by God, though written in various forms.

  • God speaks through commandments, prophecy, and historical events.

  • Understanding the background deepens our grasp of Scripture.

  • The Holy Spirit is the true author behind all sacred writings.
