Written criticism – What is meant by Jesus reigning over the house of Jacob forever
His Holiness Pope Shenouda III explains the verse: “And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end” (Luke 1:33), clarifying that it refers not to an earthly or material kingdom but to a spiritual and eternal kingdom.
This kingdom is not based on worldly power but on faith in Christ, who reigns over hearts with love and truth.
The word “Jacob” symbolizes all believers, meaning that Christ’s kingdom includes everyone who accepts Him through faith and lives according to His commandments.
This kingdom has no end because its King is the Lord Himself, whose reign transcends time and space. It exists both in heaven and in the hearts of believers.
Pope Shenouda concludes that faith in Christ is the path to enter this kingdom of eternal light and life.
