Al-Ajiba, Part 1

His Holiness explains the importance of the Agpeya as a biblical and historical form of prayer established by God Himself to unite believers in worship, affirming that it does not restrict the worshipper but teaches him how to pray and remain steadfast in communion with God.

Theological and Spiritual Points

  • The Agpeya is not a church invention but an extension of the Psalms used in both Old and New Testaments; even Christ Himself said, “When you pray, say: Our Father who art in heaven.”

  • God Himself set the order of worship—its times, seasons, and forms—such as the tabernacle, sacrifices, and the Sabbath; therefore, organized prayer is obedience to divine will, not a human constraint.

  • Unified communal prayer through the Agpeya allows all believers to pray in one spirit across the world, realizing the unity of the Church in praise and supplication.

  • The Agpeya reminds the believer daily of the events of salvation: the Nativity, Crucifixion, Resurrection, Pentecost, and the Second Coming.

  • Each hour of prayer carries a different spiritual tone: repentance, thanksgiving, praise, supplication, and scriptural meditation through psalms and gospel readings.

  • The Agpeya teaches humility and reverence in addressing God—how to thank before asking, and how to pray for others, for the Church, and for the whole world.

  • Those who pray with the Agpeya live a life of praise, learn the true faith in the Holy Trinity and the Holy Spirit, and experience the presence of God daily.

  • The Pope clarifies that true freedom is not abandoning prayer order, but choosing to pray under the guidance of the Spirit as the early Church taught.

Spiritual Summary

The Agpeya is a spiritual school that teaches believers how to pray, uniting them with God and the universal Church, helping them live in constant awareness of His presence. It is the minimum daily structure of prayer that every Christian may build upon, remaining the safe and faithful way left by the fathers to keep the heart burning with divine love.
