Doubt

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III speaks about doubt as a hidden spiritual war through which the devil attacks humans to weaken their trust in God, in themselves, and in others. Doubt takes many forms — doubt in God’s existence or help, in faith and doctrine, in people, and even in one’s own abilities.
✝️ Doubt in God and His help:
The Pope explains that some people doubt God’s love when their prayers seem unanswered. Yet God never delays; He acts in perfect wisdom and timing. He cites biblical examples such as Gideon, Sarah, Abraham, and Rebekah, who struggled with waiting, but God fulfilled His promises faithfully.
💬 Doubt in others:
He warns against doubting friends or spouses, as it destroys trust and inner peace. Relationships must be based on mutual confidence and love, not on rumors or suspicion, because the devil uses doubt to sow division.
💭 Doubt in oneself and in faith:
Some people doubt their ability to succeed or repent, falling into despair. Here, the spirit of doubt joins the spirit of despair to destroy the soul. The remedy is trust in God’s mercy and power to renew any heart.
📖 Sources of doubt:
Doubt can come from wrong readings, misleading teachings, or negative environments. The Pope urges believers to stay rooted in Orthodox faith and avoid those who cast doubt on truth.
🌅 Victory over doubt:
A broad-minded, strong believer can overcome doubt. True faith brings inner peace that no trial can shake. Trusting God completely is the only path to triumph in this spiritual battle.
