The division among the priests

⬇️ تحميل الفيديو

His Holiness speaks about the problem of division among the priests in the church and how division moves the church away from the spirit of unity and love toward self-interest and personal gain, explaining that this division allows sects and heresies to influence the people.

Causes of Division

He clarifies that the causes are varied: disputes over authority and who is first, competition for influence, people and geographic areas, disagreements over projects and money and distribution of endowments, differences in talents and styles of ministry, and fundamentally caring for the self instead of serving the kingdom.

Harms of Division

He outlines the consequences of division: diversion of energies instead of positive work, factionalism among the people, the entry of division into pastoral work, preaching and pastoral visitation which distorts the spiritual message and hinders repentance, and causes stumbling and fear among some from entering the church.

Practical Examples

He gives pastoral examples where multiple gifts existed without division in St. Mark Church in Shubra, and emphasizes that cooperation of gifts is better than rivalry over them.

Remedies and Advice

He advises focusing on positive work and not responding in kind to insults, engaging in ministry to needy areas and neglected families, controlling the tongue and practicing humility, and not bringing disputes before the people except on matters of doctrine and teaching which are resolved by councils.

Spiritual Conclusion

His Holiness calls for love, unity, humility, and service to the kingdom instead of self-interest, affirming that true spirituality and councils address doctrinal issues while priestly relations should rest on service and love.
