Doubt
His Holiness Pope Shenouda III speaks about doubt as one of the strongest spiritual wars faced by every human being, explaining that no one is free from it in some form. Doubt may begin with disbelief in God’s existence, as with atheists, and extend to mistrust in God’s love or help—seen in Gideon, Sarah, and Abraham who doubted when God’s promises seemed delayed.
His Holiness affirms that God never delays but works in the right time with divine wisdom, and believers must trust His promises without rushing or resorting to human ways.
He also addresses other kinds of doubt: doubting others, which destroys peace and mutual trust; doubting oneself, which weakens the soul; and doubting moral values, when the devil tries to question fasting, purity, or divine commandments.
He warns of the influence of the surrounding environment and false readings that may distort faith, stressing the importance of steadfastness in the Orthodox teaching and avoiding strange doctrines.
The devil, he explains, uses fear and forgetfulness to plant doubt in the heart, but the believer must keep inner peace and complete confidence in God.
Final Message:
True faith knows no doubt but walks in peace and full trust in God, who never fails those who love Him.
