The Apostolic Fathers and Saints
The lecture speaks about the position of the Fathers the Apostles as the foundation stone upon which the Church was built, for they received the faith from the Lord Jesus and handed it to the following generations. The speaker explains that the Apostles transmitted the pure teaching and the apostolic priesthood in an unbroken succession until it reached us today, confirming that the Coptic Church carries this blessed continuity since Saint Mark the Apostle.
He also explains that the Apostles did not take from Christ only the written teaching in the Gospels but also the oral tradition and practical life they lived with Him, and through them the Church received her rites and holy way of life.
He emphasizes that the choice of the Apostles was divine, as the Lord called them one by one and knew their hearts, and they immediately responded in obedience and love. He also mentions the wondrous calling of Saint Paul, which came from the Holy Trinity, showing that ministry is a heavenly, not a human, calling.
The lecture focuses on their spiritual qualities: discipleship, fullness of the Holy Spirit, courage, strength, and steadfastness before persecution, as they preached throughout the whole world by the power of the Spirit until the Gospel reached the ends of the earth.
It also points out that although they had human weaknesses, the divine grace worked within them, making them faithful witnesses for Christ who established the apostolic Church based on teaching, love, striving, and holiness.
It concludes that their love for Christ was personal and deep — He loved them to the end, washed their feet, and called them brothers, and in turn, they handed this love through their ministry and sacrifices.
The spiritual message calls us to walk in their path, live by their spirit, and continue their mission — to remain steadfast in the apostolic faith and do the works of our Fathers the Apostles in the service of God and the Gospel.
