Education in the Christian Church
From the beginning of history, education has always been an essential part of the mission of the Church. Even before the establishment of the New Testament Church, the Holy Spirit sent prophets and teachers to guide the people toward the knowledge of God.
Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself was called the Good Teacher, going from city to city and from village to village, teaching the people and correcting the false teachings that existed in His time among the scribes and Pharisees.
After Christ, the Apostles continued this ministry of teaching, spreading the Gospel everywhere. Following them, the holy bishops, patriarchs, and great Church teachers preserved the apostolic teaching and handed it down faithfully through the generations.
The Church has always been a school of faith, and every bishop, priest, and teacher is a witness to the truth. Teaching is not limited to schools or theological institutes — every father and mother has the sacred duty to teach their children the Orthodox faith and Christian virtues.
The speaker emphasizes that teaching should be done in a simple and clear way, so that it may enter not only the minds but also the hearts of the listeners. The goal of education in the Church is not only academic knowledge but also the salvation and spiritual growth of the soul.
He also encourages learning the English language, as it helps servants teach children and youth living in English-speaking countries. Knowing the language supports service, biblical study, and theological understanding.
Finally, he thanks the listeners and reminds them that education in the Church continues as a living tradition received from Christ Himself, passed down through the Apostles and the Fathers, and sustained by the Holy Spirit working in the Church until today.
